I fell in love with poker the way many people did in the United Kingdom – by watching Late Night Poker on Channel 4. My favorite experience was winning (shock!) the 888poker SuperStack in Birmingham. After half an hour, I was down to 10 big blinds. Two days later, I had all the chips. It made me fall in love with tournaments as opposed to cash games.
British poker pro and Hendon Mobster Barny Boatman is a total hero of mine. Technology is changing poker every day. The advent of solvers such as PIO have revolutionised how the top players approach the online game, with GTO theory now more important than ever. Live poker has made fewer noticeable changes in recent years, but surviving the pandemic and returning with stronger attendances than ever points to consistent growth, which is possibly even more important than the initial changes that grew live poker so much pre-Black Friday. This year could well see a record attendance in the WSOP Main Event as well as poker operators online breaking records too. Poker has probably never been resilient.
